It’s all Bush’s fault

March 19, 2008, by Doug No comments yet

Seven years ago, I predicted that Hillary Clinton would be President if, and only if, George W. Bush did a really crappy job in his second term (then not even a reality). I was saying that our next President would be elected not on their credentials, but on perceived lack of performance on the Bush Administration. If George Bush did not develop his ability to articulate his policies by the end of his presidency, the country would yearn for one who would. If Bush did not reach across the political aisle in a decent way and compromise for the sake of the country, we would yearn for someone who would. If Bush did not unite the country on his war policies and work with the “other side,” even like Clinton did with his Republican Congress, we would yearn for a candidate who was a uniter. If our economy was falling like it is now beginning to, we would yearn for a President who would take care of us like FDR tried to.

Guess what? All those things are true. Bush can’t articulate his way out of a paper bag, didn’t cross the aisle for policies, didn’t gain support across the country for the war, and our economy is about to begin to recede because we haven’t cut government spending alongside tax cuts. Unfortunately, this causes the nation to hunger and yearn for the polar opposite of George W. Bush’s way of running the country.

John McCain isn’t that person. He is ingrained into Washington politics as much as anybody. Hillary Clinton isn’t that person; she’s as divisive as Howard Dean. Barack Obama is the only candidate who has a perceived uniting spirit. Whether he truly is a uniter is yet to be determined. But that won’t stop his current popularity in the Democratic race.

Thank you, Mr. President! The Depression we might now enter might just last longer with a New New Deal!

When fascism comes…

March 11, 2008, by Doug No comments yet

Even though every so-called “liberal” (who are really “progressives”––ironic nomenclature, to be sure) wants to “do good” for the society, this is what life will be like once they have power:

Operator: “Thank you for calling Pizza Hut. May I have your…”

Customer: “Hi, I’d like to order.”

Operator: “May I have your NIDN first, sir?”

Customer: “My National ID Number, yeah, hold on, eh, it’s 6102049998-45-54610.”

Operator: “Thank you, Mr. Sheehan. I see you live at 1742 Meadowland Drive, and the phone number’s 494-2366. Your office number over at Lincoln Insurance is 745-2302 and your cell number’s 266-2566. Which number are you calling from, sir?”

Customer: “Huh? I’m at home. Where d’ya get all this information?”

Operator: “We’re wired into the system, sir.”

Customer: (Sighs) “Oh, well, I’d like to order a couple of your All-Meat Special pizzas…”

Operator: “I don’t think that’s a good idea, sir.”

Customer: “Whaddya mean?”

Operator: “Sir, your medical records indicate that you’ve got very high blood pressure and extremely high cholesterol. Your National Health Care provider won’t allow such an unhealthy choice.”

Customer: “Argh! What do you recommend, then?”

Operator: “You might try our low-fat Soybean Yogurt Pizza. I’m sure you’ll like it”

Customer: “What makes you think I’d like something like that?”

Operator: “Well, you checked out ‘Gourmet Soybean Recipes’ from your local library last week, sir. That’s why I made the suggestion.”

Customer: “All right, all right. Give me two family-sized ones, then. What’s the damage?”

Operator: “That should be plenty for you, your wife and your four kids, sir. The ‘damage,’ as you put it, heh, heh, comes $49.99.”

Customer: “Lemme give you my credit card number.”

Operator: “I’m sorry sir, but I’m afraid you’ll have to pay in cash Your credit card balance is over its limit.”

Customer: “I’ll run over to the ATM and get some cash before your driver gets here.”

Operator: “That won’t work either, sir. Your checking account’s overdrawn”

Customer: “Never mind. Just send the pizzas. I’ll have the cash ready. How long will it take?”

Operator: “We’re running a little behind, sir. It’ll be about 45 minutes, sir. If you’re in a hurry you might want to pick ‘em up while you’re out getting the cash, but carrying pizzas on a motorcycle can be a little awkward.”

Customer: “How do you know I’m riding a bike?”

Operator: “It says here you’re in arrears on your car payments, so your car got repo’ed. But your Harley’s paid up, so I just assumed that you’d be using it.”

Customer: “@#%/$@&?#!”

Operator: “I’d advise watching your language, sir. You’ve already got a July 2006 conviction for cussing out a cop.”

Customer: (Speechless)

Operator: “Will there be anything else, sir?”

Customer: “No, nothing. oh, yeah, don’t forget the two free liters of Coke your ad says I get with the pizzas.”

Operator: “I’m sorry sir, but our ad’s exclusionary clause prevents us from offering free soda to diabetics.”

Why I am a [true] Liberal

March 6, 2008, by Doug No comments yet

Today, the term “liberal” has come to mean big government, limited individual rights, more fascistic methods of governing, and a nanny state that takes care of our every expensive needs.

Unfortunately, presidents like Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and other so-called “progressive” thinkers of the early 20th century turned liberalism into progressivism, which has hijacked the liberal monicker. Unbeknownst to most “liberals” is that they are not in fact liberal, but more fascist and “progressive” in their thoughts (though one could argue that taking a society back to the communistic ways of society is not really “progress”). What used to be called “liberal” has now been named “classical liberalism.” Or, in short, libertarian (which isn’t as catchy).

Jonah Goldberg, author of Liberal Fascism, has written in his blog the following:

The fundamental insight of libertarianism is that the government is the government. It cannot be your mommy, your daddy, your big brother, your nanny, your friend, your buddy, your god, your salvation, your church or your conscience. It is the government. A big bureaucracy charged with certain responsibilities, some of which it is qualified to carry out, many of which it is not.

Wikipedia’s definition of Classical Liberalism as “a doctrine stressing individual freedom and limited government. This includes the importance of human rationality, individual property rights, natural rights, the protection of civil liberties, constitutional limitations of government, free markets, and individual freedom from restraint….”

If that’s what it means to be a liberal, then sign me up!
