Liberal Fascism

February 14, 2008, by Doug No comments yet

\

After beginning The Forgotten Man and reading about the Great Depression, I’ve begun delving into more polemical arguments involving economics, politics, and philosophies of the 20th century. One of the books I picked up and am loving is Liberal Fascism by Jonah Goldberg. I heard about him from Glenn Beck, then saw his interview on The Daily Show, and realized it was a book that would at least be enlightening with a bit of entertainment. No doubt it is a biting book, rife with [sometimes obscure] political humor, and is certainly a painting of the history of fascism and the Left’s affair with it in the 20s and 30s.

A friend of mine who blogs has been asking me why I haven’t posted often. Honestly, it’s because I have little to opine about because I’m very intense in my own learning about freedom, politics, and theology. Recently, however, I have been reading some quotes and would like to share a few:

“A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.”
Thomas Jefferson4

“I believe the world has genuine problems and I believe it can and should be improved. But I also think that deciding what constitutes responsible action is immensely difficult, and the consequences of our actions are often difficult to know in advance.”
Michael Crichton, Commonwealth Club, 2003

“The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries.”
Winston Churchill
